At Pristine Skin and Laser, PRP treatments are performed by experienced medical professionals with the expertise and resources of Mercyhealth Plastic Surgery behind them. Our team uses PRP as part of a personalized approach to aesthetic care, helping patients achieve natural-looking improvements in the appearance and quality of their skin and hair.
What is platelet-rich plasma?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a regenerative aesthetic treatment that uses a concentrated portion of your own blood to support the body’s natural healing and rejuvenation processes. A small blood sample is processed in a specialized centrifuge to separate and concentrate the platelets and plasma, creating a solution with a higher concentration of platelets than normal blood.
PRP contains naturally occurring platelets, growth factors and other components involved in the body’s healing response. It may help stimulate collagen production, support tissue repair and promote healthier-looking skin and hair. Because PRP is derived from your own blood, it is considered an autologous treatment and can be applied or injected as part of skin rejuvenation and hair restoration treatments.
PRP for skin rejuvenation
PRP facial treatments can be used to improve the overall appearance and quality of the skin. By supporting collagen production and the body's natural regenerative processes, PRP may help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin texture and signs of skin aging.
PRP can be used on areas such as the:
- Face
- Under-eye area
- Neck
- Décolletage
- Hands
PRP may be performed as a standalone treatment or combined with other aesthetic procedures when appropriate. Your provider will evaluate your skin, discuss your goals and recommend an individualized treatment approach.
PRP for hair restoration
PRP hair restoration is a nonsurgical treatment designed to support healthier-looking hair and may be used for patients experiencing certain types of hair thinning or hair loss.
During PRP hair restoration, concentrated platelet-rich plasma is strategically injected into areas of the scalp. The growth factors within PRP may help support the environment around hair follicles and promote healthier hair growth.
PRP hair restoration may be considered for patients who are experiencing thinning hair and want a minimally invasive treatment option. Because hair loss can have many different causes, your provider will evaluate your concerns and determine whether PRP may be appropriate for you.
What can PRP treatment help improve?
Depending on the treatment area and your individual needs, PRP may help improve the appearance of:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin texture
- Dull or tired-looking skin
- Sun-damaged skin
- Certain types of acne scarring
- Thinning hair
- Hair density and overall scalp appearance
Results vary from person to person. Your provider can explain what you may reasonably expect based on your treatment area, skin or hair concerns and overall goals.
What to expect during a PRP treatment
Your PRP treatment begins with a consultation to discuss your concerns, medical history and aesthetic goals. A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and placed into a centrifuge, which separates the blood components and concentrates the platelets.
The resulting platelet-rich plasma is then prepared for your specific treatment. Depending on your treatment plan, PRP may be injected into targeted areas of the skin or scalp or used in conjunction with another aesthetic treatment.
Treatment time varies depending on the areas being treated and whether PRP is combined with another procedure. Your provider will explain the process and provide specific instructions before and after your treatment.
